The year was 2020, and we were all going a little bonkers locked up inside. Like so many, we turned to baking and pastry as an outlet. As a trained pastry chef, Surrae found herself quickly getting tired of the super hard pearls, overly crunchy quins, and uninspired jimmies that lined the grocery shelves - there had to be something better out there. With nothing but time to craft, we began experimenting in home-dyeing sprinkles (it was a HUGE mess!)
But out of the madness came something wonderful.
👉 That picture is the very first photo we snapped of a River Road Sprinkle jar. We’ve grown & morphed so much since that day, but it still fills our hearts with total delight. We loved the creative process and our soft, pearly signature look that was forming. With our newfound passion, we wanted to create off-beat mixes, dreamy color combos, and a brand that wouldn't break the bank (or your teeth.)
And so we did...
Today, we’re still doing pretty much the same thing we did back in 2020. We’re making messes, creating dreamy pearls, and sharing our sweet art with folks all over! It’s still just the two of us, with kindness and creativity at the forefront of every business decision we make. All of our packaging is either reusable or recyclable, and we have mixes that use both conventional and all-natural food colors.
A bit about the people behind River Road: ✨ We’re holiday enthusiasts, pet parents, and have a love of bad Prosecco and good beer. ✨ We live full-time in Pittsburgh & spend as much time as we can in New Orleans. ✨ We love getting into good trouble ✊ and dancing in the street 🏳️🌈.
